The 10 vices that damage your teeth

Smoking, coffee or biting your nails are some of the customs you have to learn to quit if you want to have a clean, white smile for a long time.

It is true that we associate bad dental habits with childhood. But bad habits related to the mouth sometimes continue and even appear over the years and this can damage your smile. Learn to control the bad habits that keep your teeth from shining all the time. Good oral hygiene is one of the key factors for healthy teeth every day of your life. Wine or sugar are natural enemies of teeth, control them.

It is Dr. Ivan Malagon who proposes a decalogue that can save your teeth:

1.Smoking

Nicotine darkens the enamel and stains the teeth. It can also cause gum disease, which in turn loosens the teeth.

2.Drinking coffee

It is a custom that favors the appearance of stains on the teeth.

3.Drinking wine

With wine, especially if it is red, we will have the same problem but, in addition, it can cause wear on the surface of the teeth.

4.Grinding or clenching of teeth (bruxism)

This habit wears away the surface of the teeth and can even loosen them. It also affects the jaw joint.  Sometimes it is a habit that begins in childhood and in serious cases it is necessary to sleep with a special protector.

5.Eating foods with sugar

Not only candy and sweets are full of sugar. Soft drinks also have a good amount, not counting the acids they contain, which affect tooth enamel. Beware of “sugar-free foods”, which are equally harmful in excess.

6.Biting your nails

It is dangerous especially because it causes microtrauma to the teeth (small breaks) and greatly affects the jaw joint. It is also not recommended to chew on ice or pencils, as this can cause irreparable damage to your teeth, so remedy this bad habit!

7.Using teeth as a tool

This habit can lead to tooth wear and even fracture.

8.Poor hygiene

The brushing should be done three times a day and vertically and circularly with a soft bristle brush. Fluoride, floss, and mouthwash are recommended for a clean mouth score of 10.

9.Perforations and piercings

They are very dangerous for teeth, gums and tongue. The metal in the earring can cause infections, gum disease and even tooth loss.

10.Eat potato chips from a packet

The starch they contain is converted to acid, and this acid can attack teeth for up to 20 minutes.

You know, if you want to show off a perfect smile, these are the habits to avoid.
